The horse breeding
Our
passion is horses which we have been involved with more or less as long
as we
can remember and with our breeding we seek to breed healthy,
enthusiastic quality horses with exceptional temperaments and gaits.
The broodmares have all been trained or judged and chosen for their qualities. Our emphasis
Each year they are individually matched with a stallion we find suitable.
Over the years many stallions from the horse farm Miðsitja in Skagafjörður have been used in our breeding program and some before their breeding evaluation, such as Spuni frá Miðsitju (1st prize for offspring) and Keilir frá Miðsitju (Honorary prize).
In 2004 Litla-Tunga was nominated to "Breeding Farm of the Year" in Iceland among nine other horse farms.
That year Björk
frá Litlu-Tungu (by Spuni
frá Miðsitju) was champion of the 4-year-old class at the Landsmót in Hella and she now holds the world
record for the highest
breeding evaluation a 4-year-old icelandic horse has ever
recieved.Upbringing
It is important to us that our horses at any time feel good and get what they need!We want our young stock to develop into healthy, strong and athletic horses and strive to give them the best upbringing possible in big, lush fields where they can roam free in the herd summer and winter and when nessesary we feed only good hey.
In beginning of January we stable the foals to make them accustomed with humans and meanwhile the brood mares have a break before the new foals start coming in the spring.
To avoid lack of vitamins and minerals our horses have free access to Basiblock - a mineral bucket that besides essential vitamins and minerals also contains natural ingredients that contribute to the general health of the horse. Furthermore we regularly deworm the horses and take care of their hooves and teeth.
All horses from Litla-Tunga are micro chipped, freeze marked and registrered in the global icelandic horse database Worldfengur.
If you have interest in a horse from us or just need more information, please feel free to contact us.
We usually have well trained trail or competition horses - on different levels of training - and talented young stock of good breeding lines for sale.

We
can help arrange transport from Iceland. There are several good 1st prize stallions in close proximity to our farm and it could be arranged to have mares bred to one of them before leaving to a new home (price would not include stud fee).
